Senior Engineer for gaming spin-out on driving safety – Making the roads safer for everyone!

Background: Our team at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is building a spin-out to commercialize innovative driver assessment and training technologies. To meet the needs of corporate customers with highly distributed workforces, we need to take existing validated assessment software and re-engineer it for mobile delivery via a gaming platform. By creating a fun, portable way to assess driver skill, performance and crash risk, our team hopes to reduce the rate of global motor vehicle crashes, a leading cause of death and injury.

Logistics:

-Full-time (40 hours/week) for 5 months with opportunity to join a growing team and start in mid-July 2015

We are seeking a senior game developer and programmer who has:

Significant game development experiences
-Shipped a working title in Unity (e.g. via Steam)
-Deep passion for developing engaging video games
-Eats, sleeps, and breathes technology and has a high regard for elegant design and efficient coding techniques
-Can handle the fast-paced demands of a lean and growing start-up
-Experience with driving games or simulators not required but preference will be given to candidates possessing this background
-You are a proven problem solver

Responsibilities include:

-Working closely with team to develop driving scenarios in Unity that can be validated against an existing research-grade driving simulator and ultimately incorporated into a demonstrable MVP within a short timeline (few months)
-Leveraging game physics, proximity sensors and database design to validate driving performance metrics (i.e. safe following distances, speeding, scanning, etc.)
-Integrating open-sourced/commercially available assets (e.g. Esri CityEngine)
-Integrating mobile assets such as accelerometers and camera into Unity projects
-Leading weekly development sprints
-Playing a large role in product, UX and design decisions while being the voice for how it will technically be built
-Communicating with team members on project updates and deliverables

Essential skills and experiences:

-Minimum 3 years experience developing commercial-grade games in Unity including textures, animation, GUI styles, user session management etc.
-Proficiency with C# and JavaScript
-Direct experience with game physics
-Strong experiences in mobile development (iOS or Android)
-Strong communication skills – can work with a team
-Proficiency in at least one other object-oriented programming language (e.g. C++, Java, or Python)
-Experience with agile and scrum development environments
-Bachelor’s degree in either CS, ME, EE, or CE
