6 – 8 Week Contract – LAB Game Engine Generalist – Virtual Production

We are seeking experienced Game Engine Artists to work on a major feature film that will utilize a game engine for visualization. If you are a Unity game engine generalist or technical director that can perform scene build, scripting, lighting, effects creation and have a keen understanding of shot composition along with a desire to work on an awe inspiring feature film then we are looking for you.

Start June 2016
Length – 6-8 weeks

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Working in the LAB, the Game Engine Generalist is a technically and artistically minded generalist who can work within Unity to build scenes, including sets, character animation, prop animation, effects, lighting and post rendering support for virtual production.
• To work closely with other LAB artists, LAB Supervisor and Virtual Art Department to re create scenes and shots with a specific look as directed by the DP, production designer, visual effects supervisor and director.
• To support real time visualization through Unity during performance capture and virtual camera sessions.
• To support a post rendering pipeline within Unity and deliver rendered shots to editorial.
• To support all motion capture stage activities, virtual camera sessions and post renders delivered to editorial as and when required.
• Maintains a consistent style under director of production designers, art directors and creative directors.
• Active participation in technical and artistic discussions and problem solving
• To be able to deal with high profile directors, vfx supes and work well under pressure.


Education and/or Experience Required:
• 2+ years experience in games industry as an engine artist and or technical director with at least one AAA game shipped on PC or console
• 2+ years of experience with Unity
• 2 + years of experience using maya and/or motion builder

Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificates:

• Experience with development of scenes/game levels within Unity
• A good understanding of motion trees, motion blending and effects is useful.
• Experience with C# scripting in Unity essential.
• Experience Unity Mechanim animation workflows and tool sets useful
• Good visual and technical understanding of shading, texturing and look development with Unity
• Strong experience of lighting both from a technical and artistic perspective within Unity
• Good knowledge of matrix algebra and trigonometry.
• Knowledge of computational geometry a plus
• Mental ray/ Vray software skills a plus
• Knowledge of Substance advantageous.
• Experience in character set up, MEL, Python scripting and understanding of character rigging advantageous
• Experience with virtual reality development and optimization is advantageous
• Fast, organized, take direction well, and can deal with high profile directors, vfx supervisors and production designers.
• Willing to take direction and be a team player.
